MEDIA STATEMENT: SIN11 Data Center Situation Update
September 17, 2024SINGAPORE – September 17, 2024 / 10:30 pm SGT – A fire alarm was activated at Digital Realty’s SIN11 data center on the morning of September 10, 2024, 7:45 am SGT.
Digital Realty’s stringent response protocol was activated as soon as the fire alarm was triggered. The facility was quickly evacuated by 8:15 am SGT, ensuring the safety of all personnel. No injuries are reported.
In response to the incident, Digital Realty swiftly notified impacted customers, advising them to activate their Business Continuity Plans (BCP) to prevent service disruptions.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded promptly to the fire alarm, arriving on-site to address and manage the situation. SCDF has since completed damping down operations at the site. The site was handed back over to Digital Realty on September 12, 2024 at approximately 10:30 pm SGT. A Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) has been engaged by Digital Realty and remains on-site to support recovery operations.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has conducted a preliminary evaluation of the building, identifying minor structural damage. Importantly, they have confirmed that the building’s overall structural integrity is not affected. As a precautionary measure, the BCA has issued a Dangerous Building Order (DBO) and a Closure Order (CO) for specific areas of the facility. Digital Realty is complying fully with these orders and has commissioned a Professional Engineer to conduct a full assessment of the building’s structure.
Digital Realty has stayed in close contact with impacted clients throughout the incident, ensuring they are informed and supported during this time. Our team remains vigilant, continuing to monitor the situation closely while advancing our recovery and mitigation strategies.
Digital Realty is committed to maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence and reliability that we are recognized for globally across the industry.
We have taken further safety measures, including rigorous inspections and enhanced monitoring protocols, across all Digital Realty sites.
Our operations team remains on-site around the clock, following all guidelines and safety recommendations issued by the authorities.
Investigations to determine the root cause of the issue are ongoing. Updates will be issued as new information becomes available.
